Cherán K'eri is a visual and editorial project that documents the story of Cherán, a P’urhépecha community in Michoacán, Mexico, that rose up in 2011 to reclaim their territory, traditions, and autonomy after facing illegal logging, violence, and impunity. Today, Cherán is governed by a communal council rooted in indigenous systems of self-governance and participatory democracy.
This project seeks to honor the strength of the community through photography, fieldwork, and editorial design. The material highlights the voices of women and youth, the defense of nature, and the collective memory that continues to shape their future.

The design direction was grounded in respect, coherence, and silence—letting the images and testimonies speak for themselves. A minimal and earthy aesthetic was chosen to accompany the strength of the stories told by Cherán’s people, especially the voices of women who have been central to the community’s resistance.
